The longtime Superman star will be busy in Australia for the next few months working on Voltron.
He has signed on for the film, which also features the unknown star Daniel Quinn-Toye, with Rawson Marshall Thurber directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ellen Shanman.Voltron is inspired by the animated TV series from the 1980s, which showcased a group of space explorers piloting a massive super robot called Voltron. This series was adapted from various Japanese anime shows produced by Toei Animation.
The specifics of the plot remain a mystery, as the cast, crew, and Amazon studio have kept details about the storyline under wraps.
As reported by Deadline, Amazon engaged in a bidding war with Universal and Warner Bros. in 2022 to obtain the production rights.
After winning the rights last August, Amazon took around three months to announce that Quinn-Toye had been cast in a leading role in early October.
The story of Voltron revolves around five young pilots in a unit called the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that combine to create the giant robot.
